Ladakh collaboration with Ex-servicemen, Leh Leauge  & Tourism Department Leh.

Kargil Vijay Diwas: Retired colonel Sonam Wangchuk received the Maha Vir Chakra, the country's second-highest gallantry award, for leading a column of the Ladakh Scouts unit against Pakistani forces at the Chorbat La Pass during the Kargil War of 1999.

This day is celebrated to honor the soldiers who were martyred in the Kargil war.

Even after the Indo-Pak war of 1971, many military conflicts continued.  The nuclear tests by the two countries had further increased tensions.  The two countries signed a declaration in Lahore in February 1999 to calm the situation.  In which the Kashmir issue was promised to be resolved peacefully by bilateral talks.  But Pakistan concealed its troops and paramilitary forces and sent them across the Line of Control and named this intrusion "Operation Badr".  Its main objective was to break the link between Kashmir and Ladakh and divert the Indian Army from the Siachen Glacier.  Pakistan also believes that any kind of tension in the region will help make the Kashmir issue an international issue.

Initially it was considered an intrusion and it was claimed that they would be removed in a few days.  But after the search in the Line of Control and the differences in the tactics employed by these intruders, the Indian Army realized that the attack was planned on a very large scale.  After this, the Government of India sent 200,000 soldiers under the name Operation Vijay.  The war officially ended on 26 July 1999.  During this war, 550 soldiers sacrificed their lives and around 1400 were wounded.

We salute to our brave hearts who laid down their lives for the Nation
