ADC Kargil Takes Assessment Of Flash Flood Damages at Hinaskot

KARGIL AUGUST 10, 2020: On the direction of the Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Tsering Motup on Sunday visited Hinaskot village to take on spot appraisal of the damages caused by flash floods triggered by cloud bursts in the area on Saturday night.

Soon after getting information about the flash floods, the ADC along with the SDM Shakar Chiktan and the field functionaries of of PHE, I&FC, PDD and other concerned departments rushed to Hinaskot village.

The ADC was also accompanied by the Councillor Stakchay Khangral Haji Muhammad Qasim, Nominated Councillor Padma Angdus, Sarpanchs and other PRI members of the area.

The flash floods caused severe damages to the head-works of all irrigation khuls, protection bunds, roads, PHE pipelines and crop fields besides the internal field channels also suffered blockades due to silting.

Meanwhile, the DC Kargil issued directions to the concerned officers of R&B, PHE, I&FC, PDD, Rural Development and other concerned departments to carry out temporary restoration of all necessary facilities in the area immediately so that the locals do not face any inconvenience.

On the directions of the DC Kargil, the ADC carried out the on spot clearance of the Kargil-Leh National Highway and ensured its clearance by 10:00 AM on Sunday which had been closed due to the flash floods at Hinaskot and around 100 stranded vehicles were allowed to cross to either side of the highway.

The stranded passengers expressed gratitude to the District Administration Kargil for ensuring the clearance of highway and facilitating the immediate movement of vehicles.   

The clearance of accumulated mud and clay on the link road from National Highway to Hinaskot Gonpa was also started immediately.
