CEC Kargil Convenes Meeting To Discuss Measures For Control Of Stray Dog Menace in Kargil Town

KARGIL AUG 26: In order to discuss ways and means besides to put in a place a mechanism to contain the menace of stray dogs in Kargil Town, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan convened a meeting of concerned officers at Council Secretariat here today. 

Councillor Kargil Town Haji Muhammad Abbass, President Municipal Committee (MC), Kargil Zaheer Hussain Babar, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kargil Dr Fida Hussain, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Kargil Dr Iftikhar Hussain, Executive Officer MC Kargil Shafaqat Ali Mir, Wildlife Warden Kargil Raza Ali Abidi besides other concerned officers attended the meeting. 

Threadbare discussion was held on various immediate mandatory measures required to deal with the growing concern of stray dog menace in Kargil town and it's adverse impact on the daily life of the residents. 

The CEC directed the officers concerned that as an immediate measure sterilization of stray dogs in Kargil town needs to be carried out besides young dogs should be shifted to an appropriate place away from Kargil Town. 

It was decided during the meeting that specialist doctors/resource persons from Leh District would be invited to impart training to the local departments in dog catching and dog sterilisation methods. 

The CEC instructed the authorities of MC Kargil to deploy adequate staff for dog catching after thorough training of the staff by the invited doctors/resource persons.

CEC Khan said that the whole exercise shall be spearheaded by the Animal Husbandry Department in collaboration with the Sheep Husbandry Department Kargil, Wildlife Department Kargil and Municipal Committee Kargil.

Meanwhile, it was further decided in the meeting that the Department of Health and Family Welfare shall procure anti Rabies vaccines to meet the exigencies that may arise while handling the canines till the conclusion of the operation.
