LAHDC, Leh celebrates first anniversary of UT Ladakh foundation day


Leh, August 5: The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh celebrated the first year foundation day of UT Ladakh by cutting the anniversary cake at Council Secretariat today.



The Chairman/Chief Executive Councillors, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal in presence of Executive Councillors, MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Counicllors  and staff of Hill Council Leh spoke about the UT Ladakh’s success in the past one year.


While addressing the programme, CEC Wangyal thanked Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for fulfilling the seven decades old demand of Ladakh on 5th August 2019  and  said that it was a moment of pride and glory for all the Ladakhis. Declaration of UT Ladakh by GoI has a larger perspective which will pave development in all the fields. Said Wangyal and added that in a short span of one year UT Ladakh had made rapid progress in all sectors and was on course to become a developed and prosperous UT in coming years.

 
Highlighting  some major achievements during the last one year after Ladakh becoming UT, CEC Wangyal said that  thousands of stranded passengers including students and patients were evacuated during COVID -19 lockdown by LAHDC, Leh.

Other major achievements listed by CEC are :

# Both Leh-Srinagar Highway and Manali-Leh Highway were opened for traffic one month ahead of normal time.

#  Highest-ever budgetary allocation of Rs. 5154 crores during 2019-20 for UT Ladakh, followed by an allocation of Rs. 5,958 crore in 2020-21. In addition, the highest-ever non-lapsable budgetary allocation of Rs. 232.41 crore for  Hill Councils of Leh.

# Sanctioning of National Research Institute for Sowa Rigpa at Leh with a budget of  Rs 30.80 to boost traditional medical knowledge of Ladakh.

# Sanctioning of a Medical college for UT Ladakh.

#  Central University for Ladakh.

# Enhancement of monthly honorarium of   Sarpanch(s) and fixation of monthly honorarium and allowances for the newly elected Chairpersons of Block Development Councils.

#  Pawan Hans helicopter services for  evacuation of patients and movement of public and officials to snow bound areas.

# Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) sanctioned under the Special Development Package (SDP), 2020-21 with the aim of converting Ladakh into an organic region by 2025.

# The University of Ladakh has been set up and has started functioning.
