“Markha Valley Clean Up Drive” organised by All Ladakh Tour Operators Association

“Markha Valley Clean Up Drive” was organised by All Ladakh Tour Operators Association in collaboration with Ladakhi Women’s Travel Company, GB Pant NIHE and sponsored by Ladakh Tourism, the Union Territory of Ladakh from 21st to 28th July.

A team of 15 trekked across 12 villages covering 133kms by foot collected 836 kgs of waste which was segregated at site into metal, plastic and glass.
The waste collected will be further recycled and reused through project Tsangda, Choglamsar.
To help fight the Covid19 pandemic, cotton face masks made by ALTOA in collaboration with PAGIR were distributed to all the villagers and coronavirus awareness sessions were organised in the villages to also understand the grievances of the locals dependant on tourism.
A detailed report of the trek along with relevant recommendations will be published shortly.
